My S.A. has the original leather interior that has been well taken care of by previous owners........BUT.......I noticed a small 1 1/2" area on the left bolster of the drivers side seat is starting to seperate at the sewn seam.

The condition of the upholstery warrants a repair.

Opinion:  My plan of action is to remove, or have removed, the lower seat leather and have it re-sewn and replaced; then, since this is the point of most wear, I would like to switch the drivers and passengers cushions. The passengers cushion is a little less worn than the drivers side.

I'm not nuts....
just trying to save bucks....

I had a similar problem with my black 79 seat. Different style seat but same problem area. The seam between the bolster and the flatter area had a 2" separation. Popped the cushion out and brought it to an auto upholstery shop. He took the cover off the foam, pinched the seam together a little more and resewed it adding a reinforcement strip. Didn't need to add or change any material either. But the repair is undetectable. Swapped the cushion to the passenger side so it didn't get  stressed in the same location. Cost $50. I was thrilled with the results, looked at that open seam for 20 years before I acted on it!   Mikemkapp78792007-03-05 21:14:28

I did a similar procedure last winter on my '82 driver's seat. But they had to put new bolster material in. Cost $200, but worth it. Looks new.
