Just taped off and painted my shifter plate (4 speed) with black semi-gloss. I borrowed a lipstick from my wife (Maroon for those who care) and used it over the chrome shift diagram and numerals, then taped and sprayed primer and paint. Used a popsicle stick afteward and the black paint slid off the raised area easily. Looks brand new and cost almost nothing.

Great tip |idea| I'll have to try that one. Sounds better than the razor blade deal! |thumb| |thumb| |wavey|

That is a great tip to bring up from time to time. I did mine last summer and used a satin finish black. I ended up painting the gage bezel, console, upper fiber optics plate and shift plate. I all came out looking great and what I used was a chap stick on the chrome. |smile|

I painted mine a couple of summers ago. Never thought of the chapstick idea. I wound up scraping the paint off with a razor or the back side of a knife blade. Turned out pretty good IMO. The chapstick would have been much easier for sure.
