Has anyone replaced factory automatic shifter with something a whole lot cooler and still used original console? If so,any recomendations? Thanks,Mikeee

I would be interested in that myself. There is a lot of B & M and Hurst stuff out there but it's hard to tell if they would mount under the stock console without alteration.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't have a B&M shifter in a go cart...btdt...many times(I'm a slow learner..)

Unless it's a full-on drag car, B&M stuff sux, IMO...
Go with Hurst, or Lokar.

Thanks Joel. I had been looking for an automatic shifter for a while now for the 78 w/ gear splitter, It's a manual shift to get all six speeds. Your advise will eliminate a lot of  bad options.

Check out the post titled "automatic tranny shifter swop" in the Driveline Components forum.  I put a Hurst Quarter Stick in the stock console.  It was pretty easy.  Just need to make a boot for it and I'm good to go.
