Hi Everybody,

Just got home from school and I'm back with my Vette. I already knew I had to fix a leaky gasket on the transmission pan, but you know that couldn't be the only thing. Went to start it, battery was dead. Got a new battery got inside to start it, bumped into the turn signal lever and it snapped right off. I was wondering if anyone did this before and how'd you fix it? Would it be a horrible pain to replace? I don't know if it just unscrews or if there is a special way to get it out. I can't really grab the remaining piece with needle nose pliers either. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you and happy holidays!!!

I did the same thing a couple of years ago. The lever just pushes in and is held in place by tension. My bigest problem was getting the little piece out of the switch. Once you do, just line up the lever and push it in. When you order the new lever watch, they make for tilt and one without.

Thanks for the reply. So, are you saying I have to pull on the broke piece and and it should come out? Its going to be really tough...I couldn't grip it with needle nose pliers.

I finally got the broke piece out!! |bouncy| The other day I spent a while trying to pull it out with needle nose pliers and I had to quit because I was getting so frustrated. It just didn't want to come out. I woke up today and was determined to get it out. First try I grabbed it with needle nose and was pulling really hard and then my arm came flying back at me. I thought the pliers had just slipped off then I looked and saw that the piece was in the them. Great Day!! |biggrin| I ordered my new one from Zip today. It looks different then the one that was in my car. Just the labeling of the wipers and stuff. The lever itself seems to be the same. Now I have to get around to putting a new gasket on the transmission pan to stop the leak then I can say its been a productive break.

Mine broke off too...but was lucky enough that is wasn't inside the column.

the biggest PITA was getting the new wiring back down thru the column. but found out from my mechanic about a easy way to do it...BEFORE I pulled the old one out....I attached a very thin piece of floral wire to the plug end (there is a teeny tiny hole in the plastic)and drew that up thru (NOTE: make sure the wire is LONG enough to pull thru the column ..my advic..twice the length of the column)...then attached the end to the NEW piece AND gently pulled it back down thru!! Piece of cake!!!!! One thing...make sure the column is is a straight position and not tilted up or down..makes it alot easier!
