The '72 that I bought has a new interior package in it. so I do not have to cross that hurdle. What I want to do is install some quaility insulation panels to help with heat and noise, mostly heat. I have used Dynamat in the past for sound but I do not know if it is good for heat. Any suggestions? Can you still buy the heat shield that is fitted above the trans tunnel? The heat transferred from the tunnel is beastly. I had forgotten how hot these B------- are!

The standard type of dynomat does not insulate that well but the more expensive dynomat extreme does very well. Only problem is that it gets expensive to use alot of it.

The tunnel insulation is still avaiable from most Vette parts dealers.

The insulations that goes under the car is still available as is a second layer that goes between the carpet and floor for added protection.

I found some @ Ecklers (#28836, #45394) & Corvette Central (#533656, #133104) as well as E-bay.

Good luck,

I was also thinking of installing a heat insulation kit, does anyone know

if they really help enough to be worth the expense and effort.

There is also a foam callor that goes over the top of the bell housing that helps with tunnel heat, foam wedges that go along the inside of the rocker panels and kick up of the floor pans, yep, its expensive and a lot of work, most toys are, a lot of noise comes through the doors, D.M. makes a spray on deadner for them, you have to gut the doors to install.

VNCRUISER found this stuff, a 'paint on' heat sheld. Though he has not
tried it himself, I plan on
slapping some on before adding the reflective heat sheld under the
carpet.... here in L.A. we need ALL the heat blocking help we can get this
summer...

Last year I installed new carpet in my 71 roadster. Before doing this I found an old posting where someone had used a product called Reflex for a heat barrier. It is a bubble wrap that is foil coated on boath sides, sold for water heater insulation. The only place I could find it in Baton Rouge was Lowes. 25ft X 2ft roll was about $25 this and one roll of foil tape did firewall, console, boath sides of floor and vertical behind seats. After trial fit sprayed carpet adhesive stuck it down and taped seams. Has lowered inside temps 10 to 20 degrees. Would have done it sooner if I had known it would make this much differance.

I just replaced my carpeting.  I used a product manufactured by Frost King, a heating duct insulation, adhesive backed foam and foil.  bought it at Lowes.  3 rolls @ $15.00/roll.  went back and bought one more roll for the doors.  can't tell you how well it works.  haven't had it on the road yet.

the best thing I did for heat was to put a shutoff valve on the hose to the heater core.   dropped the inside temperature dramatically.

I just got through installing 36 sq.ft. of Dynamat Extreme. Expensive and time consuming. Also replaced the lower shifter boot. It had a big hole in it. I imagine that a lot of heat was coming through the opening. I hope to get out for a drive Sunday and see if this Dynamat stuff was worth the effort. I will post my results next week.
