Wow it was 70 degrees here in Lincoln Ne. today (Jan.8) TOTALY UNREAL! well I just had to take the vet out an do some cruzin. Looked at my speedometer and it was reading 30mph's. I was doing at least 60. It stayed there until I got home and it went back to 0 after it sat for a while. My odometer was working as I watched it driving down the road. Anyone know what the problem would be Do I need to lube the cable or what?

Sounds like the cable is going. the square corners on the ends start to round and slip. there is a kit that has a new metel cap to put on the end to fix this. usually the end that plugs into the dist. is the end that goes. its easy to uncrew the cable cap and look at it.

If the odometer continues to register then the cable is fine . Sounds like it is time to have some speedometer head work done !

O.K. I am going to look at the cable first. The odometer was moving but I didnt clock it to make sure it was acurate. Thought about that later. Thanks alot for the tips. I will let you know what I found.

Hello,
I don't believe your problem is in the cable. I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the mechanism inside the speedo. You can get it repaired or just replace it with a used one.

i agree after re-reading your post. if the odometer is working and the speedometer not it's definitely the speedometer.

If it is my speedo. where can I send it to have it repaired, Or is it possible to repair my self? Have looked at about half a dozen corvette parts magazines and havent found any yet. I am sure it is not a small job just taking out the speedo?
Does half the dash have to come out to get to it? I guess it really doesnt matter if it does It needs to be done. Thanks
