Now that this post is complicated enough, I'll pipe in with my question.  Last time I had the car out on a semi-warm, but dry day (about 50 degrees), the speedometer was not working right, but the odometer and trip were both running right.  The speedometer seemed "sticky."  It would hang around 20 and when I got on the interstate, it went up to about 50, but I know I was going faster.  When I got home, I had to tap on the lens to get the needle to go back down.  Ideas?

The speed-o head itself is either dirty, or defective. No way around this one...if ya want it fixed, it'll have to come out, and be sent to a repair facility.

I just sent my speedometer out to eckler's for restoration after my odometer/ tripometer failed this summer. $135 plus parts and a 4-6 week turn around time. It took me about an hour to remove the drivers side dash pad, after only having done several times already. You have to loosen and lower the steering column, disconnect all electrical, vacuum connections and of course the speedometer cable (take pictures and lable your vac. hoses) if you havent replaced any light bulbs now would be a good time.

Thanks for the tips.  Sounds like I need to get mine done.  I'm not looking forward to tearing my dash apart.

I told my wife what I planned to do and she pointed out that I didn't have a good history of taking things apart.  I corrected her on how wrong she is - I have no problem taking things apart - it's putting them back together that is the problem!!

As a tag onto this thread, does anyone know if any of the vendors out there still change the POS 85mph speedo's over to the 140 or 165mph variety?

I saw it in an old Mid-America catalogue but they aren't in the new ones.

I've seen that offer recently but there are soooooo many vette catalogs around I don't recall which one (pardon me while I research)."Corvette Central" has a company offering these services, listed under "Gauges". I'll need that service myself. Hope that helps.   Jimmy B.
