I purchased a'78 with apparantly a different/custom wheel on it and after rebuilding the upper steering column Icant get the telescopic to lock as the wheel has to much dish for the lock ring. the wheel looks smaller and has corvette across the top and the three spokes have a slot in them.

Any ideas as to fix telescopic lock short of aquring the correct wheel (I kinda like this one)

without seeing it, hard to vision but it sounds like you need to have a new lock ring machined or modify an old one by removing the interfering material with a die grinder and files

It must have a different spoke pattern, as with the stock wheel, the lock achieves full function between the upper 2 spokes
