I've got a dilema and need some info.. I want to change the color of my interior (currently saddle) to black. My plan is to just dye the door panels, dash, console, roof panels and leave the carpet and seats saddle. I was wondering how much this would affect resale value if I sell it later on down the line.. The color of the car has been changed so I figure it won't be much of a big deal..

Opinions needed...

I personally consider this minor... this is a reversible mod.. you can always get new peices in the old color.

if you sell this car to some jerk who wants to turn it into a trailer queen, hes probably going to replace the parts anyway..

my .02 is go for it

I'm pretty much in agreement with cthulhu's points on this one. Since the exterior color is modified, modding the interior is VERY minor.

If somebody gripes about the seats and carpet not matching the rest, point out that new covers and carpet run $500-$700 (relatively inexpensive for Vette stuff). If you have to split the difference with a SERIOUS buyer to close a GOOD deal, so be it.

Another $.02 in the pot. 96 cents to go.

John

I have a carpet from Charlie C who replace his light tan with black to avoid dying. I need black and am going to dye the carpet black. (Some already done and looks good). The carpet is a high wear area, and will show through sooner or later and require touch up dying. For the difference in price I'm good with that for some time to come.

It's your car. See what your budget will allow, and do what you want. It can all be changed back. |thumb|

Down to $.92 |biggrin|

Thanks for the replies.. I guess it doesn't really matter if I change the color, whoever buys it next will probably dye it again or replace everything to a new color anyway.

How good does this dye work on interior parts...can you change a blue to tan without seeing blue..Which kind is best?

ive never had good luck going from darker to lighter..

you could try multiple coatings but im not sure it would ever look right..

you would have to paint them.. and this can change the whole texture of the item.

I agree with Ben, going to a darker color is much easier. You can go lighter, but it is harder to cover. It can be done. Some of the OEM replacement parts from GM only come in black, and they need to be dyed to match. Common in body shops. But usually only necessary with low wear items such as window trim, dash, etc.

They sell a primer that you could try if you want to go from darker to lighter.. don't know how many coats you'd need but it's worth trying. Mid America and Corvette Central sell the dyes, the other companies probably do also.. heck, Pep Boys or Autozone might sell them too! Probably cheaper also.. |biggrin|
