I own a 78 vette that's so hot inside you can't drive it more than an hour before your feet are roasted. This isn't just heat through the floor, you can feel the heat blowing in the area between the floor and the dash. I have rerouted the heater lines to make sure I am not getting heat off the heater core.

Does anyone have any ideas how or where to look for probable firewall leaks. I have tried a quartz light in the engine compartment, but no light shows through. I have found a small leak around the stearing rod, but it is not very large.

I can also be reached at hl@datasync.com.

This is also listed under general discussion.

My 78 L48 puts off heat-but it doesn't sound like it is anywhere near as extreme as yours. More than most passenger cars but nothing you could not deal with.

Has the carpet ever been replaced in yours? I know that there is a heat shield that is supposed to be installed over the drivetrain under the carpet. Maybe it somehow got removed. Just a thought.

My 75 L48 gets pretty opressively hot, but I suck it up and drive it, no A/C for the summer....and this winter I found out the heater core is broken. Thermometer in the footwell in August showed around 120 Faren. This winter I had to drive to NJ in the snow, and my can of soda froze before I opened it(since I don't drink in the car I was planning to save some money at a rest stop), well, I don't know what causes it to be worse in some cars than others, but I do know that an L48 engine can put out some serious heat!(just not in wintertime)

You guys have a valve in the heater input hose to cut off coolant flow to the heater? If you don't, you're likely bringing hot coolant into the car , even when the heater is "off."

THAT Is an understatement!!! My L-48 really get HOT in side in the summer!!!!! And like you don't have A/C. Well I got to re-doing the interior and gonna ADD more heat sheiding to it...got to replace the carpet anyways so might as well add the heat barrier.

I have a friend that installed a valve in has '75 to stop that from happening..and it does work.
