Is there a way to change/fix it by itself or do I cut my loses and replace the whole Speedo ?  Or what else should I trouble shoot?

BTW, Speedo and regular odometer look like they are working fine.

The parts in the odometer are very frail and easily screwed up if you're not careful. If you take he speedometer head out you may be able to fix it, but I think you would be better to send it to a rebuilder rather than replace the entire speedometer that may be no better. I was quoted about $175 by one rebuilder about two years ago, and that included calibrating the speedometer as well.

Rebuilding your own keeps the car's mileage honest as well as completly original to the car.

The trip odo runs off of a gear set that also drives the regular odo.  The gear linking the two is often the problem.  Or the drive gear on the trip odo could be the problem, or both.  Sometimes the gear clip comes off and will work with a reinstallment.  Pushing that button can cause it to wear and slip over time.  It could be just the Odo number tumblers.

In any event, if you take the speedometer out of the dash, and look at the back you can see the gear links.  Then turn the cable input and watch to see what turns, and where motion stops.  Then you can spot the exact trouble.  The repair parts for this are fairly cheap compaired to having it repaired.  ElectroSound on Brookpark Rd in Cleveland carry the parts, or can do the repair.  I'm sure there are others, but they are the Factory repair center in Northern Ohio.

Yes, they are delicate. But the gear and mileage indicators are not as touchy as the speed indicator itself.  I recommend you do not mess with the speed indicator.  It's real easy to mess up the calibration. You don't need to disturb the speed indicator to repair the odo.  Pull it out and take a look.  Then you can decide to repair it, or send it out.  You need to pull it anyway.
