Just one question? Well actually 2. What are the original colors and what is wrong with keeping it? I plan on painting my 74 this fall or in the spring depending on when I get all the little things done. It is a lot of work to change colors besides not matching the color and trim codes on the car. As Glenn would say, just my 2 cents worth.

Well, the ORIGINAL color of the car is light blue, and the interior looks like it was blue too... However, the PO had it painted Burgandy, and dyed the interior black. The reason I want to paint it Black is that I have to get it stripped because the Burgandy wasn't put on properly, meaning that you can still see the original blue in places, and that drives me mad. So if I was to return the color to the light blue, I'd have to strip the car anyway! So if I'm going to do that, might as well make it the way I really want it. As far as the interior goes, it needs a lot of work also, because the guy again did not do a good job dyeing the blue.

|QUOTE|glenns said: My car is red with a black interior. It gets hot. Let me say that again, it gets hot. I drove it yesterday with the hard top still on it. I was parked for about an hour. It got hot !! I really don't think the color will make a bit of difference. If you want the interior to stay cool, while it is parked, flip the top up and use a sun screen. My Jimmys are both black with a grey cloth interior. The only part of the car that stays cool is the cloth seats. Now there is a thought, if you are into modifying your Vette, put in some nice modern power cloth seats or hmmm how about seat covers? I know this sounds like a smart alec answer and I am sorry. The point is, it will most likely be hotter than you will like no matter what color you choose. I know there will be about 70 responses telling me I am nutts but hey, ya stick out your neck and ya take how ever many swings the axe man feels like dolling out

I was actually thinking about putting in some nice racing seats, or even those BMW M3 seats... man, they are a DELIGHT to sit in. But since it's a convertible, apparently there will be problems with mounting the seat and seat belts etc, or at least that's what I was told... I have nothing against car seats, but if I'm restoring this car and have already sunk in so much money, I want it to be perfect. A goal I'm sure many of us desire, and die looking for

IMRAN,
I just read your last post regarding trying to get your car perfect and investing a lot money in it already.
You mentioned you were replacing the entire interior. That will may cost from $1,500 to $3,000. I know I restored my 76 about 7 years ago. If you are going to spend that much money, are you sure you want to chose a color that was not offered in 74?
In my opinion I think you need to do more research on what options for colors you may really have. Get yourself an Ecklers, Mid America, etc catologs and check what items in what years you could use..
I will agree that Oyster interior with black is a very nice color combo, but Oyster interior wasn't offered until 78. To the best of my knowledge 78 seat covers will not fit on 74 seats. If they did the pattern and the stiching would not be correct. There is also a very good possiably of the carpeting not fitting after 75.
When i did mine over I used the original color. Since it is a very rare color, the door panel, dash, etc did not match perfectly. I sprayed them with the vinyl paint (which did) and it has held up very well. Be sure to prime and then seal the paint after you are satisfied with the color. This will save you alot of money.
Good luck with your project.

Dutch,
Good point, I hadn't even considered that. I was just assuming that they could cut out the carpet and all for any color I wanted. According to Mid Am, I've got Black, Midnight Blue, Oxblood? Medium Saddle and Silver to choose from. Anyone know if the colors are interchangeable between years? Wow, that seriously limits me now.

It's your corvette, you can do whatever color combo you want to it. Consider future resale though. Personally, when I was looking for my 2 vettes I had to have ones which were fairly original and absolutely matched the factory trim tag colors. That's just me though - I'm one of those purist types.
Since you asked.

Juliet,
Unfortunately the car has already been altered from stock quite a bit as it is... doesn't mean I won't get a pretty penny for it when I want to sell it, especially because I have the matching engine on a stand in the garage, but the paint and interior were already changed, along with the carb, and differential. Hopefully this won't be my only Vette, I love these C3s and could see myself starting up a collection :) (After I get the bill collectors off me
) But next C3 will definitely be a NCRS wannabe car.
