Here's a question... what color should my vent levers be painted?? Right now they're a nice shade of rusty and it bothered me last summer because they looked bad. I'm going to yank the console, scotch brite them, and spray them some color. Aluminum? Black? Silver? Red? (wait, not red)
Thanks,
Matt

The ones in my '69 match the vents ( silver ). Oooppps, just reread your post. I believe you mean the ones on the console for a non-air car not the ones in the dash. I think they should be black on top where you hold them and silver ( chrome, whatever ) on the shaft.

Thanks.. I was going to to something along the lines of silver anyway. I have the whole console and dash gutted right now.
This weekend I'll start reassembling. I took EVERYTHING apart.... guage cluster, heater controls, etc, and painted all of the black parts a nice clean semi-gloss black. I have a new cd player and some Infinity speakers coming in on the Brown Truck today, I hope.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking about. Is it the levers on the center console? I think the finish depends on the year. If you're asking about the vents themselves, they are chromed plastic, however the extent of chrome / black varies. Early '70 has just the edges chromed. Later ones have more plastic chrome. The levers on the dash are also a chromed plastic knob. I have an AC car so I'm not 100% certain on the center console vents. The NCRS Tech info & judging guide should have the answer. If you don't have it handy give a holler and I'll look it up for you. ~Juliet
