My '69 has no seat belts installed in it. Looks like someone installed new carpets over the mounting bolt points for the seat belts. I've got the belts and mounting bolts, but don't know exactly where the bolt holes are so that I can cut the carpet in the right places. Also, I've got a long black plastic piece with the buckle and one long belt. Does the buckle piece go on the inner part of the seat or at the outer part?

The short piece with the buckle goes on the inside, or on the side of the transmission tunnel. The long piece bolts to the floor outside the rear corner of the seat. There should be a chrome clip on the front of each seat where the long seatbelt slips into neatly when not in use. This was before there were retracts installed.

The actual spots for bolting the belts down shouldn't be difficult to find if you use a pointed punch and poke around carefully (like looking for land mines so you won't hurt anything). It's threaded holes you're looking for.

If you look under the car there should be a metal plate with a nut welded to it about the center of the seats. That is what the retractors bolt to. The retractors are mounted under the carpet with a plastic cover over it. In the tunnel area there should be another metal plate with nuts welded to it. That is what the buckle part bolts to. There also should be a cable that is attached to that plate and is looped through the rear part of the frame on the under side of the car. There should be a metal rod that bolts to the floor running between the seat and the doorsill. The belt should run under that bar and come through a slot in the carpet up to the seat.

You should be ablr to locate the bolt holes from under the car, then just push a punch up through them |thumb|

I'm also replacing the carpet in my 69 and was wondering if there's a trim piece that covers the slit in the carpet next to the door? I can't find any record of one yet if seems unfinished to just cut the carpet. I agree that the short piece bolts directly to the side of the trany tunnel. The long belt (I have no retracters except on the shoulder harness) bolts to the floor roughly center of seat and runs thru (underneath) a brace also bolted to floor then exits through the carpet. I also have the chrome clips on the front of the seats to secure the belt when not in use.

I read in another post that there was a plastic molded piece but it is no longer available. I got so edging from the local upholstery shop and hand stitched it on to my carpet.
