Not sure exactly on a 68, but all of the window cranks I have ever seen have a large "C" clip holding them onto the shaft. You can spend hours trying to push it out with a screwdriver, or save yourself the time, go to the local parts store and buy a tool made for it. Looks like a screwdriver with a blade tip but a groove cut into it for the shaft, it'll pop it off in about 2 secs. and make installation a lot easier too.

Made this tool from a coat hanger. I would attach a picture but don't know how. Cut about a 6-8 inchs of coat hanger wire. Put a small hook on one end 1/8 to 1/4 inch in diameter. On the other end make a larger bend of about 2 inches. Kind of like an S just one end small and the other big.
Push the small end in between the handle and door. The location on the handle is on the oppisite side of the handle with the knob. To say it another way. If the handle with the knob is North then the location is the south side. Slide the wire in with the long bend parallel to the door and then rotate the long bend end to 90 degrees to the door. You should be latched under the C-clip. Just pull it out.
Good luck.

I have a dental pick that I obtained, or you can use a 'scribe'. If you bend the end to 90 degrees on the end, this will enable you to hook onto the c clip and pull it out. If the clip is bend, or broken, you can pick up a new one at any automotive parts place, i.e. Autozone, Advance, Pep boys.
