Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.
Need some help:
As mentioned before I had the windshield replaced in my 1979. Got her back last night and started taking a hard look at her as I was cleaning her for a 'cruise' this weekend.
Seems when the windshield was replaced and trim surrounding the windshield reinstalled, there is now a 1/4" gap between the windshield and the trim! I don't believe this is correct. All other vehicles I've looked at have trim sitting directly on the windshield.
Shined flashlight up under trim and can actually see clips around windshield exposed! To me this defeats the whole purpose of my replacing the windshield as I was trying to correct a leaking problem and protect the supports from further rusting. I will be talking with the guy who installed the windshield and trim for me this afternoon after work, but wanted to get some thoughts from my cohorts on the net.
Also, seems like somehow the T-tops have been tweeked so that now they do not run parallel, and one rides slightly higher than the other.
What do you guys think. Have I been caused more problems and should I be berating the guy or just keep my cool and make sure he knows he needs to fix this matter at his cost?
Any advice or expert input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark Romanowski

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
Mark,
I definately would go back to talk to the guy about your concernes. If he isa any kind of businessman at all, he will go out of his way to fix the problem.
I will go out back to look at mine, to see if it fits flush or not, after while. I'll let you know.

Are my attention lines not attention-getting enough? The other post on windshields, from Adam, got 11 replys and I got one (thank you for that, by the way).
Anyway, I spoke with my mechanic and he agrees with me that something is wrong. He had one of the local glass installing companies come into the shop to replace the windshield so he is calling them to find out what they're going to do about it. They have installed windshields in this area for years so I find it hard to believe that this is the first Vette w/shield they've installed.
I guess it comes down to money. I'm holding $400.00 worth of his services (and the car is in my posession) until the problem is fixed...right...and to my satisfaction. He's been told this and understands that he has to stand behind his work whether he performed it or contracted it out.
Anyone out there with a 78 or 79 who can look at their windshield and tell me where the trim sits in relation to the window? Flush on the window? Gap with weatherstrip? No weatherstrip, but just a gap?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
THanks,
Mark ROmanowski

Mark,
Out of curiosity sake...did he replace the glass with an original dated piece or just whatever he could get cheap? When I had to replace my windshild, I order from ZIP products and got an exact dated piece of glass. The original glass is a bit pricey but the insurance covered it. Could be what he put in was an "el-cheapo" replacement and that is why you are having the fit problem. I know I damn sure would not pay for it till I was satisfied.

Mark,
Sorry I took so long. I got busy yeasterday, and forgot to look at it.
The trim is on the windshield everywhere, except for a short space in the upper corners. It is a little over 1/8th in away at these two points. I'd say that it is about midway up on the sides that it starts to pull away from the windshield. And about the first 6 inches along the top side before it touches the windshield again. It is just some poor fitting trim by GM, or it would be on the window all the way around. The fit and finish back in 79 wasn't as good as it is now. Poor quality control at work!!!

My windshield has never been replaced, if that matters to you.
