Don't know if these would be any good for driving on after all these years but if you needed a set for judging I'd guess they'd be ok.

Thanks for the heads up on these.   The year of '82's did have an option for these tyres for both the regular and CE's.

I personally don't trust the old tyres.   I just don't need to have an accident.    Besides the new tyres the judging doesn't take off for the points I think....    Besides my opinion is that judging is for the other weird people!    NO disrespect here.   But the truth/fact is NO historic car will ever be the same as when it came off the assembly line.  That makes no car 100%.    I dive mine all over the place as there meant to do.  Smile

I would not trust them either. Tire manufacturers say that you should not use tires that are more than 6 years old, even if they were never used.
The compounds degrade over time and could be unsafe even though they look great.

That's why I made the comment about using them for showing/judging.

"The Beast" only had 7,500 miles on the clock when we got it - still had the original tires on.  Besides being hard as rocks they were all checked in the tread grooves.  No way was I going to drive any distance or at any higher speeds on those.  The first major purchase for it was a set of new GYs so we could take it out and enjoy it.  I did bag and keep the original tires though incase the next caretaker wants to put it on the show circuit.

I agree with Norsky. If you were into showing the Vette, a set of original tires on it would amaze many people.

But would you leave them with the protective blue still on or clean them up?
