Well gonna bite the bullet big time since cam lobe is worn and has a flat spot or two and since we don't know where loose metal participles may be headed.......we're gonna do an engine swap. No need to baby a vette, just do what needs to be done to make her the best she can be. Jasper engine out.....GM crate engine in.
As far as fuel loss and heat, yes it appears that due to low fuel flow at times allowed for some vapor lock in fuel pump coupled with engine temp possibly from convertion or conductive heat.

Sorry to hear this. What crate motor are you going to be going too? Just out of curiosity how many miles on the jasper engine? what oil do you use and do you use a zddp additive? I am assuming the motor was a flat tappet cam?
My biggest concern with todays oils are the lack of Zinc.

Crate motor is GM 350/195 HP. Looked at the 350/290 but drivetrain tech thought may be other issues working well with the ECM controlled carb and dist. On the Jasper motor, not sure of miles, was installed back in 2004 was all I could find out. Car has 79,000 miles now so hard to guess miles worn. On motor oil had Havoline 10w-40 but you are right lack of Zinc is becoming a problem. Mechanic had said we may run Rotella T oil in this engine.

ok I will let the cat out of the bag..I had the foil wrapped fuel line and clothes pins on it for some time..but what really worked was a product I found at Carlisle..called cool carb..coolcarb.com..its a local guy here in york making them..I went thru the york parade at 100 degrees at idle for a half hour with no problems running at all..was lucky before to get 15 minutes..before stumble and rough running..maybe for next time..I use VR1 20-50 oil..

What a TEASE!
C'mon Rich...a little mo info on this thing, eh?!
If it's some sort of heat shield that goes underneath the carb, that won't really keep the fuel from percolating in the fuel line from the pump to the carb, which is the problem Tommy is having...even with the line disconnected, it wasn't pumping any fuel.

I did raytec this thing..intake temp was 190 in the middle right next to the carb..could not touch it without pain..I could put my hand on the base of the carb..was a warm 120.. and that was the warmest spot..it was cooler at the fuel inlet at the filter..and when I turn it off I don't hear the bubbles of crap gas boiling..which it doesn't do as bad with the turbo blue gas..but not at all since I put this spacer in..I had to open up the carb for the idle mix to be right and re time the whole system..it runs that cool now..actually bumped up the total time to 38 now..I get less mileage now since the secondaries are open constantly..I love ethanol.
