Vette(s): 1982 corvette crossfire production numer C5101985. Color is silver and claret. All original numbers match. slight mods to crossfire for better efficiancy and power balanced and added fuel pressure assembly between throttle bodies,
I  had a question concerning the programing on the 82 ecm. with the advancements in programing the chip, how come they havent offered a chip from gm that will upgrade and replace the one in the 82.
I have heard that the 84 chip will solve some of the issues but why not have one thats factory correct for the 82 crossfire?
I have heard of several ways of hacking into them but I prefer to leave that up to the gm programers after all they designed the chip.

Any suggestions on a plug and play chip that will correct the chugging, electrical issues and the fuel air ratio that will give the motor what it needs to run properly? one made by gm? specificly for the 82?
thanks
Marcus

Hi Marcus,

Welcome to C3VR.  You may already know about these guys.

http://www.crossfireinjection.net/

I have not found a dedicated 82 CFI EPROM  I have a little, very little Z80 work in the past but, that was with Moog Synths.  Maybe someone else will chime in with other options but, not from GM.  I keep my 82 in 3rd until I pass 35-40 mph.  Then I slip it into Drive.

What else do you have going on with your 82?  I've kept mine pretty much stock with the exception of an 85 in-tank fuel pump.  I'm doing the TBI rebuild kit and add on DCS fuel pressure meter assy.  Aside from keeping the IACs clean and the AC working I've been doing just the basic stuff.

There are a lot of experienced vette techs on board here and many 82 CFI owners. I'm interested in your "slight mods"?

All the best.

Keith

I have a set of billet pully's that came with the car, the previous owner said that when he had them on the car it ran like crap.  he had a mechanic look at it in florida and was told to take them off because the ecm would not accept the adjustments. it didnt make sence to me.
I have redone the gaskets in the tb's, adjusted the tps, changed top end gaskets,  set the timing to back to 6, the tb's were balanced at some point and have adjusted my stock fuel pressure to 14 between the tb's
their is also an alpine stereo system in the car with infinity speakers that pull a lot of power. I spent months chasing wires before I bought the car, just to stop the car from going through batteries, turns out the cig lighter was improperly grounded and the main bat ground to the frame was not fully grounded. Im having issues with my driver side power window now as the switch works intermitantly.
Kool matt has been installed in the cabin. umm let's see what else the rear end was redone, Torque converter was swapped to a smaller one, a shift kit was put in it, brakes were upgraded, a higher amp alternator was put on it, stock rims were replaced with amarican racing 6 spoke, the cloth seats were replace with leather, the center consel carpet was replaced with leather, it has a custom true duel exhaust on it, Windows are 5% tint, Ac has been converted to accept new colant, headlight vacume lines were redone. Why some of the stuff was dont i do not know it only has 73k on it...
the car runs pretty good now, she'll chirp the tires as it shifts to 2nd and third it just surges a touch just after it shifts from 1st to 2nd.
The guy sold me the car because I knew more about it in 5 months than he had learned in the 9 years he owned it.
Top end, well the spedo stops at 85 but she just keeps goin and going I have not gotten the pedel over half way to the floor yet at high speeds with not knowing the speed im not sure what she will truley do on the top end.
The car seems to have more power than it does and now and then it shows it thats why am looking at a the ecm now and the more i can find out the better the car will run both power wise and fuel milage wise...

Marcus,
Welcome to C3VR. I think you will like it here.
When I bought my '82 in 2004 it was a little luggy around 40 mph and it would knock when climbing a hill, so I exchanged the standard chip for the Hyper Tech Chip. That made it smoother at low speeds, but the pinging turned out to be carbon buildup.
Had the top end rebuilt.
Runs great now.
I have a TB rebuild kit, but I won't mess with it if it is running good.
Hang in there, it will get better.
