Dave,
I'm very interested in the 1975 code 27L Steel Blue Metallic Corvettes.  Current printed information that I've found says it was a limited color and only 1975.  Some say it was a sourcing issue with the paint and others say it was a problem with applying the metalic paint.  Do you have any insight as to this?
FYI, I have been collecting VIN numbers and Trim Tag data for years on Steel Blue cars and I can so far prove Oct '74 , Nov, Dec, Jan 75, and Feb Code 27L cars.  I LOVE researching this stuff!

Also, is there a way to research any factory recalls for the 1975 Corvettes?

Thank you for your time,

Brett - Quincy, IL

Thanks for that link, I visit that site frequently.  Not what I was looking for as far as my questions go though.

Hi Brett,  recall that the '75 Corvette was still being built at St Louis.  The body panels still required a lot of repair from porosity that led to paint popping and the paint shop was primitive.  I don't recall the specific issues with the Steel Blue Metallic but I'll bet the issue was the difficulty of matching paint between the primary painting operation and repair painting.  A metallic paint with its oriented flake can be very difficult to match leading to repainting the whole care over again.  Dave
