There's always one in every crowd.
I wouldnt buy anything other than a cummins.
I had a 98 24 valve and put 215,000 on it. Hadnt done the brakes, or clutch. Sold it to my bud and bought a 04 crew cab. (Both dualey's).

Have 110,00 on it and just got back my full extended warranty.
Both trucks manual trans.

Get about 18-20 mpg on the 04 and about 20-22 on the 98.

But thats just me.

$15,000 is about right for a retail deal on a 2WD truck...I am assuming it is NOT 4WD. The mileage is a little high for the model year, in fact the deduction for high mileage is around $2300. I see trucks with this mileage sell in the $12000-$13000 range at dealer auctions. Again not a bad deal for a truck that you are going to keep a while. Not great if you are planning on trading in a couple of years. Hope this helps.

good luck with the truck . everyone always has some great tips here and have always watched out for everyone. sometimes even if it is a little higher priced, you don't mind paying a little extra if it was well maintained and in great condition. i have seen some people walk away from a deal because they were stuck on what they were willing to pay and thought the seller would break down and sell it. bottom line is you have to be satisfied in what you paid for it and what you got which obviously you are. best of luckThumbs%20Up

Yeah, it's a pretty kool truck. Looks good, drives good, clean and with that Hypertech Power Programmer III set on 70 hp boost, it'll git on down the road. Been wanting one for a long time and although I would have ideally liked a 4x4, this one will do fine.
Cruising over to get it registered today...thought I was going about 75... nope, I was sittin' on 95! Woops! Gonna have to watch that. Too smooth and quiet. LOL Very happy with it!
Anyone ever changed the fuel filter in one of these 6.6L diesels? Think I'm gonna change everything, (oil & filter, trans oil & filter, fuel filter) so I know it's all up to date. I plan on keeping this one for awhile. Wink

Being in the Quarter horse/cow/rancher business, plus, being a contractor I have seen, driven and owned a lot of Diesel trucks and this is my 2 cents worth. I now own two Ford F-350'. One is a 99 that I bought in 98. After I bought it I put in the 100 h.p. chip, exhaust, larger intake, and a few other mods. This truck has left me stranded more than all other vehicles I've owned in my life put together.( 5 times) I've also limped it home a few times. I'm on my 5th transmission. The last two were supposed to be "bullet proof". Got 11 months from the first one. Had the last one for three years now, but, I've put less than 10k on the truck in that time. Just sits out by the barn with the horse trailer in permament hook-up. Fastest most powerful junk I've ever had. The other Ford that I've got has been slightly more dependable. It's a 03 and will never be modified. I've also sold one Stroker. These trucks seem to always have issues with glow plugs, injectors, cam sensors, glow plug relays, etc. In 05 I bought a 3500 Dodge w/ 5.9 cummings. 85,000 plus miles on it and it's never been to the shop. I pull horse trailers, utility trailers and one real big boat 16,000 plus lbs. I got 10 miles to the gallon pulling that boat from northern Utah to Lake Mead.  8 miles to the gallon coming back. It's a  grade coming back. Been such a good truck I just bought another one for one of my employees. All the people I know who drive the D-MAX love them. They rave about the Allison. I  personally like the new body style, but, you have to put at least four inches of lift kit in them to make them look like a real truck. Seriously, for offroad use they are prone to high center because they sit so low. For highway cruisers I think they are great. My Fords have all been 7.3 motors. I have dozens of friends, business associates, ranching associates that have bought Fords with the 6.0. Three, that I know of ,have returned them on the lemon law. As far as I know the have a 100% failure rate. Worse, I've got two friends that are replacing engines at less than 150,00 miles. Diesel motors are expensive. Hopfully for Ford, their new 6.4 is a better motor.

Whew! Glad I wasn't Ferd man! Everyone I talk to says they haven't had any problems with the Duramax/Allison combo in GMC. Hell, I'm stoked. It's like climbing in a Cadillac compared to my old '82 Chevy. LOL Some pefer the Power Stroke or Cummins, but I happy with what I got. Thumbs%20Up
