I'm looking at buying one of those 4 post car lifts to gain back some room in my garage. Any body have any first hand experences?

   Are you looking to do repairs or just to store a car on. Keep in mind the height this thing will go up to with a car on it. I've used both styles and to be honest, I perfer to use the 2 post because it is less restrictive on under car repairs and easier to move around under the car. They are also good to use if you pull a motor or remove a body. Hope this helps. Good luck. Try both if you can and judge for yourself. Then buy the one that suites you best.

I have a four post lift an love it.  I bought it mostly for storage but have done a tremendous amount of work with it.  Jim is correct that a two post lift is less restrictive and allows for easier tire and suspension work but I wanted mine to be portable to move around the garage. Right now it is in a corner with a car on top and one underneath. I move it more to the middle when I am working on the vehicles.  The removable casters that came with it allow me to be able to move it by myself(1600 lbs). 

Thanks Jim, right now for storage. I have two 1980. One mint and one that will be restored. I plan on keeping the mint one in the air during off season and using the space under it for the project car or some of the other toys. Everone here is very helpfull, looks like I'll do the membership!

Tim, that is pretty much what I want to do. Store my mint vette, and have the drip pans and such installed. Also I also want to push it close to the back of the garage so I was looking to get the casters also. I will be doing some front suspension work, pulling the motor and tranny on the project car.

Sounds like a moveable four post lift is what you need.  They are prety reasonable and very handy.  More than I imagined. 

My fiend has two four post lifts and the air jack that goes with them so he can jack up the car while it is on the lift to take the tires off or work on just about anything. I plan to get me one soon. My garage has a 10 foot ceiling and the garage door is a 8 foot high one so I think it will be fine even with the door opener. If not I will move it over to the other side where there is no door opener, (Yet). Redwingvette2008-06-18 13:00:44

Thanks, I bought it locally, ( http://www.teclifts.com/storage_parking_lifts_7000I.htm ) 7K lb lift with the normal free accessories that most of them come with. It's pretty much the generic China import and works fine for storage and minor fixes and maint work.
