I would like to get something that would make working on all of the vehicles in the family fleet a bit easier. I currently have the plain ol' ordinary drive-up ramps, floor jacks, and jack stands in the arsenal for getting some lift for working underneath.
Ceiling height in the new playroom (opps - garage) is just a tad over 8 feet so that might limit some of the options. Portability isn't a major concern but I don't think I'd like to do a permanent installation of something as it would be nice to have the flexibility of rearranging the space as needed.
Anyway, I was just curious what folks have, or wish they had, in their home workspace.
Thanks in advance for your response!

I'm old-fashioned...two 3 1/2 ton floor jacks, 6 stands, 2 full length creepers, otherwise known as "Other"....

Well if I am spending the money on lift I want something other than a
drive on. I like a two post because I have accessibilty to most
all components plus I can remove the tire for brakes, suspension and
frontend work.

I'm fortunate to have access to a 2 post lift 99% of the time. But I voted for the 4 post option.
Some manufactures do make pneumatic jacks for their 4 post lifts that roll in between the rails so you can remove tires or do suspension work.
Someday down the road when I build a decent size shop behind the house. I will have a lift installed. I just need to make sure that the ceiling height in that area is around 13-14"(minimum) high for clearance.

I'd go with a 4 post. You can have it in the garage and park on it so it's not really gonna be in the way. Raise it as high as you can and get one of those rolling seats to get under and work on some stuff or actually roll it out into the drive to lift a car all the way up. Several models of lifts have caster sets to move them, I THINK even with a car on em. Jack stands and a floor jack still come into play for wheels off work, tho. I find jackstands more convienent than the jack attachments for the 4 post. The runners get in the way. If you get a lift, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it!

I'm with Ranger. I'd rather not have all of the hardware in the way. I have access to one and use it when I need to. Most of the time I use ramps / stands / 3 ton roller jack in my garage.

i have a scissor lift. for me i felt it was the best choice. as i only
have an 8' ceiling with a two or four poster i would be wasting half of
it as i can't raise the car all the way. as stated in above post i do
use a roll around seat under neath it and for the most part can get at
everything i need to and as it raises the car from the frame i can
remove tires if i need to. yes the four posters come with casters but
as far as mobility not everyone has a spacious garage to just move it
out of the way. when i am not using the lift, my corvette is parked
over it so i am not losing any more space than i already have. plus
there is the cost to consider. my scissor lift cost $1049.00 plus
175.00 shipping. the cheapest four poster i have seen was 1700.00 plus
3-400.00 shipping. if i had the space and the height i probably would
have bought the post lift but in my situation i feel the scissor lift
was moe cost effective. just my opinion.

I like the two post lift the best because you can change the oil, lube it and do a brake job at the same time with out crawling all over the floor.
If you have 10 to 11 foot high ceiling, it works nice, also you can park something else under it.
If you can only lift part way, like an 8 foot ceiling, lift as high as you can and use a seat with wheels on it. I do that with some big trucks I can't get as high as I'd like to.
I have a ALM 9002 lift, cost about $3800.00 installed 5 years ago. Best thing I ever did for this old body.
