A couple of years ago a 2001 F-150 was added to the family fleet.  Nothing special about it, looks like a zillion other F-150s.  It comes by its nickname honestly ('The SilverBuckboard') as from the first day in the stable its ride has been rather stiff.  But it has been one of the nicest trucks overall that I've owned todate.

Last winter was a bit exciting as I tried to squeeze one more winter season out of the Goodyear Wrangler RT/S skins.  Not looking forward to skating on rain slicked roads this summer I started looking into options for replacing the 17" stock wheel and tire combination.  Finally decided on a 20" wheel/tire combo from Discount Tire.  Having been warned that going with a lower profile tire would potentially increase the stiffness of the ride I really wanted to change the look of the truck.

Installation happened on the way home from work tonight.  As I braved a section of freeway that would normally loosen even the most securely fastened dentures I was extremely surprised at how much of an improvement there was in the ride.  Gone was the bone-jarring thump on the concrete section breaks!  Granted it has a long way to go to match a luxuary sedan, but the improvement is remarkable.

Here's the "new" look of the 'SilverBuckboard'.  Each are clickable to a larger version.  Now I have another project in the hopper to cleanup and paint the brake caliper and rotor surfaces...!!!

BB, somehow I don't think the 4.6L Triton (in its current configuration) would be able to keep pace with your SRT10.  Maybe after a turbo or blower install with a boost of NO it might be up to the task.

The rims and tyres just went on yesterday so less than 50 miles on them (so far - and I'm still grinin'!).  That will change soon though.

Hey Jim,

The F-150 looks infinitely better. Now ... if it were only a Lightning!! Then you might keep up with Belgium Barry.

Hey Jim, Thanks for posting this. I have a buddy who has same year / style truck who was asking my opinion for wheels tires for his truck. I'm gonna forward this to him to view.
I'm tryin to talk him into joinin C3VR. I found him a sweet 81 vette for $5K that needed minimal work. (He drives every sunny day).
He also has a very sweet black 69 Nova with a blower motor that he bought in high school, sold found it again in a field, bought it again and restored. I'll try to get some pics of both cars now that I have my camera back from my daughter.

Vette(s): 1972 conv., sunfire yellow, blk interior, blk vinyl and convertible top. Off frame restoration with American Speed 383 stroker engine producing 500hp plus a 200hp NOS system. MSD ignition. Hooker super competition headers with chambered exhaust.

Jim,

It's not often that I compliment anything that has Fo....For...Ford (ok I said it) on it but the F-150 looks great with the new wheels and tires.

The only other exception that I recall was to a friend who restored a 39 Ford convertible, put an LT-1 vette engine in it and had the valve covers engraved with "Fordette"

Thanks everyone!  The guys at the D.T. store who did the install liked the change in look as well.  They hadn't seen those wheels before and thought they complimented the color scheme of the truck to a "T".  I didn't want chrome 'cuz you see so much of that and thought the polished/painted look worked better with the silver.

Day 3 and I'm still grinnin'...!!!

fyi -  the wheels are MB Motoring Gunner 5 (20X8.5) from the MB Wheels SUV Series and are wearing Yokohama GeoLandar HT-S 285/50R-20 tires.
