To remove water spots from the Windshield.  Heres a link.  Note the reviews at the bottom of the page.  Some say it may scratch windshield.

I've had good results with Stoner's brand automotive glass cleaner.
It's one of those products that actually works.

Does Stoners remove hard water spots or water spots etched into the glass?

Another thing I have heard about is using toothpaste with 0000 steel wool.

We have hard water here & the Stoner's works great on it. It's always the last thing I do after washing the Vette. Cleans all the glass real nice.

 
As far as an etched in hard water stain, I never had that problem so I can't add anything.
