Yeah, at the time it was one of the fastes Indy pace cars to ever go around the track......

All official track cars had modified 4-cylinder 2.7L Super Duty engines, capable of 232 HP at 6500 rpm, and 3 speed auto transmissions. These cars were able to run laps better than 136mph and are one of the fastest pace cars ever tested at Indy!

I guess that some of the information out there is a bit off,
BOTH my fiero's have more space (leg and head-room) than my vette.
and safe?
read this....

According to a Consumer’s Report magazine article entitled "Which Cars Protect You Best?" from pages 186-188, April, 1984, the Fiero tied for first place in the small car class. In this test, the cars were run into a solid barrier at 35 miles an hour. From the article, "No car made today can survive a head-on collision into a fixed barrier at 35 miles an hour. After such a crash, the car is reduced to scrap metal" (p.186). After this crash test, the Fiero received a rating by Consumer’s Report of: minor injury to driver, minor injury to passenger, and moderate rating for structural integrity (p.187).

Vette(s): 1981 - 59 Beige over Cinnebar leather. Edlebrock top end, 2200 stall w/shift kit, 3:55s, Mufflex maniback exhaust, nice stereo, 16 in AREs w/BFGs
I've owned 2 Fieros, Both 87 GT fastbacks w/a stick.  The 1st one caught fire and burned to the rims with 4000 miles on it.  The second one, I wish it caught fire and burned to the ground.  Sortafun, very frustrating.   I'ved owned a score of muscle cars, A few Alfa Romeos and this is my 1st Vette.  My Alfa Spiders were a ton more fun then the Fiero, The Vette its like dating a supermodel, the Fiero was like dating the girl next door.  Its a wholenuther lever..

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!
The Fiero was misunderstood.  It was created as an economy commuter car, not a sports car.  As the years went by GM started to make it into what most people thought it was to begin with.  They got it down fairly well the last year the built the car.  But by then sales had dropped and production stopped.  Shame really.   I liked them, but hated to drive them. Uncomfortable.
