Members,

It's cold out there......................

As an Auto Theft Detective, I want to send a reminder to all members & their families regarding your personal cars...........

Please do NOT leave your car running unattended.  This refers to warming your car up in the morning, or it leaving it running at your local convenience store.

I have run into too many theft victims who always tell me "I just went inside for 5 minutes."  This can be especially scary for people who leave their infants unattended in running cars........Believe me, it happens every day

Bottom line, before you walk back inside your house, or by the time you add cream to your coffee, an "opportunist" can easily make off with your car.  I live in a "quiet, safe" town & it has happened several times here.

Please don't make yourself a victim.  Many insurance companies are refusing payment to "victims" who leave the keys in a running car.

I have found that the best way to deal with this is to invest in an automatic start with a brake cutoff.  Mine came with an alarm, & I use it all the time, hot (A/C) or in the cold.

p.s................If you own a fairly new car, be sure to remove the VALET KEYS from the owner's manual in your glove box.  Many thieves are breaking windows, looking for these keys & making off with brand new Acuras, Audis, BMWs & such.  This also refers to transponders left in the car for push button start vehicles (like the C-6) also.

Please don't make me say I told you so..............The first line against theft is you!

Best wishes,
Anthony

Vette(s): Silver 1974 Convertible - L82 4 speed Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses. 2008 Jetstream Blue Convertible
Also, in some localities, you can be charged with a crime if you leave your unlocked car running, as it creates an "attractive nusiance."

I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!

Manget 1, that shows just how screwed up our society is.  The poor criminal just couldn't resist stealing my car.

Really pisses me off, laws like that.
