Quick question for all:

Does anyone know how to remove the side body molding on a car door?  It's on my 2006 300C.  It's held on with 3M tape.  This is a factory installed molding.
Thanks.
Rob

Try driving REALLY close to a pole...that usually works at the shop...

Just kiddin...
A heat gun will loosen the adhesive enough to slowly pull the molding off. Just be very careful to not get any one area too hot, and damage the paint.
A little 3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover will help, too, if poured carefully along the top of the molding.

And, if neither of these methods work...try the pole thing...

Dental Floss.  Hold the floss on both sides and ensure you pull toward the molding (like there was any other way to pull).  Use it like a ropesaw (if you are a hunter or outdoorsperson you have seen them).  Pull up and down on the floss wrapped around your fingers (preferably gloved fingers) as you move the floss slowly forward.

This will saw thru the sticky stuff.  Then use WD-40 or goo gone or goof off to remove the sticky stuff from the door without damage to the paint (NOTE TO SELF:  test paint inside hood or door hinge area to ensure the stuff doesn't remove the paint.

Good Luck!

Dennis has a good idea... I used what I had on hand (fishing line) to remove the BSM off of my C5 and it worked great. I did find the heaver the better.

Heck if you not careful it wanted to cut through them. Just take your time and be patient.

I agree with Tux. Use some fishing line and wear gloves - it'll start to cut flesh too!! Pinch

Thanks for all the ideas.  I'm not sure which way I'll go with it, but at least I have some different ways to approach it.  Is the 3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover available at an auto store or do I get it at a store that sells body repair stuff?

Thanks.

Paul is right and I forgot to mention that. I started out barehanded and didn't get very far. I quickly had to put on a pair of leather gloves.

After doing so I just worked the line back and forth in a sawing type motion until I could lift it off with my hands. It is really easier than it sounds.

After removing I used goo-gone and followed up with a waxing. Everything turned out great in a relatively short amount of time.

Well, got out there using the dental floss, sawed about 8", then I just pulled the molding off.  Cleaned up the old tape with some bird and sap remover I had and stuck the new one on.  Quick and painless!!
Thanks all for your help.
