Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
I can
remember racing one on San Pablo Dam Road. Actually it was more like
following one very fast as the taillights disappeared in the dark. To say race would seem indicate you were competitive. We did go back the muffler shop and he let us boys drool over his car.
What a shame, he was such a great guy, every car guy will miss him for sure.

"I'll blow his ass off..."
Shelby, speaking about Enzo Ferrari...and he kept his word.
Shelby was one of the TRUE automotive heroes. Even before the Cobras, GT40s, and Musturds, he made his name in racing circles both here and across the pond. I have always had the utmost respect for him. He was also truly genuine...said what he wanted, and usually meant it. When it came time to come up with a name for the Mustang GT, he tired of the discussion, and asked someone "How far is it from the shop to the runway?".."About 350 feet" was the reply. "So that's what we'll call it. If it's a good car, no-one will care, if it's a POS, the name won't save it." And that's how the Shelby GT 350 got it's name.
The Racing Heaven has gained a great feller. I'll miss the old Texas Chicken Farmer....

So sorry to hear of his passing... I toured his facilities just outside the Las Vegas Motor Speedway last October. He was a legend and made some really nice cars.

What a tremendous loss to the automotive world and performance community. Mr Shelby certainly left his mark with incredible Mustangs, Cobras, etc. His legend will live on for as far as I can imagine.
RIP Mr Sbelby
