Well, when i got back from iraq, i was happy to be re-united with my Stinger and my Monte SS.... the Vette fired right up and purred like a kitten... made this man proud.....
Old faithful, my 1988 Monte SS, ran like crap, spit and spudder... the car sat only 3 summer months in my garage......
so i changed the cap, rotor and plugs.... still ran like crap, barley ran, the tach needle was jumping all over, but the engine was at a rough idle.... disgusted I let it sit as i had the hunting season and holidays coming....
This past saturday, I took the corvette out for a run around the block, backed it in the garage and smiled.
Sunday morning I decide to work on the SS...... as I walk to the back of the garage to get the battery charger, I see a puddle of fluid near the drivers side rear tire on the 'Vette..... my caliper blew a seal and leaked all night.....
I roll my eyes and smiled a sarcastic smile and thought to myself "heck, i was going to change them this winter anyway"
On to the monte, fed up with it not running, I decided to pull the distributor thinking the problem was inside and once in the garage, no wonder it didnt run right, the pickup and anything metal was rusted and was broken in a few peices.... corroded from 20 years of use..
so now I am rebuilding the Monte's distributor and ordering new calipers/ hoses for the Vette....
its always something.

Why don't you buy a new updated distributor and rebuild the old one as a spare? I purchased a new digital MSD and rebuilt the old one so it is ready to go in whenever I need it. Just a thought for you.

I thought of that, but the funds for the SS need to go to a paintjob... and rebuilding it is something I like to do and its somewhat less expensive...

I got to play Mr mechanic this weekend and it wasn't with the vette. Took 6 hrs of shear pain to change the alternator on my daughters mx-6. My hands sure got scraped up on that one
. Then it was on to the BMW 325is to change power steering hoses, piece of cake 1-1/2 hrs and then install a new battery in it. Boy my fleet sure keeps me poor

I feel your pain. The mild weather today allowed me to work on mine, but the rusted fittings wouldn't budge. Trying to find a new or used one is an adventure in itself.
You are right. It's always something.

Good thing I'm already poor so it won't hurt so bad when I have to spend the money!
