35 Ford with manual steering.  Owner wants to convert to power steering.  Has a 350 crate motor in it now.  Anyone have any ideas?  Two other bits of information, he has NO idea what he is doing and I won't be around to do it or help.  The mechanic he trusts has worked on a similar vehicle, 34 Ford, but I don't know if he done this type of conversion.

He's in Phoenix so if one of our members in that area has anyone we could contact that would be great.

A Borgeson set up would prolly be the easiest bolt on deal, but I don't think they have anything for anything older than 1952, iirc. Whatever system he uses is going to require some fabrication....hope his mek-a-nek has some fab skills. Thumbs Up

I haven't had the chance to talk to him yet.  I'll make a point of doing so before I head back home.

Thanks

Depending on his budget and skill level maybe they could do a modern electric power steer system like shown in the link below.

Don't think the owner would go for electric.  If he doesn't understand it, it doesn't work.  Problem with that is. as an example of his knowledge of cars:  Alternator belt is loose and squeals, but doesn't know how to tighten it.  So explaining the process of how the electric would be installed would be like explaining it to him in Chinese.  If I were to say "works like a regular power steering unit" then I'd have a better chance of convincing him.

No disrespect to the owner, but if he can't do a simple task of tightening a belt. I guess he couldn't hook up 2 wires basically...a positive and negative wire for the electric steering. Everything on this is plug and play. Much simpler than doing a traditional hydraulic system. I think he should sell you the car and take up a new hobby. Wink

Not to worry Sarge, he's a great guy, just doesn't have any skills with tools at all.  He probably could do it if he had to but he's got a problem with stability so I help him out as best I can when I'm here.
