Topic: fender stripes
in Forum: General Non-Vette Discussion
I see some vettes with orange or red stripes on the fender. What is the significance, does it matter which fender or color?
Thanks DB

If so, it's to honor the very few C3 Grand Sports of the early '60s that were built to race against the Cobra's. Those Grand Sports looked identical so they had different color fender stripes so they could be identified at a glance.
More like banners.
So I can tell mine at a glance when it is parked next to all the other RED Vettes

Really

The stripes("hash-marks") were for the pit crew to identify each car quickly, as it approached/passed the pits.
The '96 GSs indeed had the stripes to pay homage.

Last year one of my students said his father had purchased a 96, and could not figure out why some fool painted the two stripes on the left fender. I told him what it was, and advised him to leave them there. They were going to sand them off and repaint the fender.
Really I'd-a swore the original GSs were '63 models. All five of 'em.
You are correct my friend. The ones I've seen both real and exoto diecast did't have the split rear window.Whats up with that?
