Vette(s): 1971 Brands Hatch Green L48 Coupe Automatic Driver - restored 1995
I finally got the nerve to go and ask a neighbor about an old pickup in his yard and if he would be willing to sell it.  I guess the timing was right because he is moving and cannot take it with him.  He mulled it over for a few days and agreed to sell it to me along with a 16' open trailer at a pretty good deal.  I have been watching this thing for 18 months ever since I moved to that area.

His dad bought this truck in '61 or '62 and he has had it ever since.  He did not want to sell it.  It has not moved in 12 to 15 years.  It still had bias ply tube tires on it and it appears to all be there.  It is a 1958 Chevrolet Apache.

I dug it out this week and put some used tires on it just to get it home and for the resto.. I'm sure it will be a year in the building.  It would be nice to have it on the road for it's 50th birthday.

Good luck with it! You should document the restore, especially with lots of photos.  Then share them with us.  We'd love to see it unfold!

That 58 with the dual headlights is a classic. My first car was a used '58 Bel Air, 348 w/4-barrel. Wish I had it now.

Nice find. Good luck with the project.

I had a '58 Apache when I was 14-15..."Farm Truck" only, as I had no license. Bought it from a friend of ours that worked for my dad for $75!!!
6 cyl, 3 on da tree, short-bed stepside. Sure wished I had it now...a classic.
Good going there, Tim!!!

btw...I have a catalog from a supplier of parts specifically for these trucks. If you need the info, shoot me a P/M.

My dad had a 58 Apache and that's what I drove back and forth to high school.  Man, seeing that picture sure brings back the memories.  Sure is surprising how comfortable and cozy that bench seat was on a date.Wink

I'm hoping to have the time to pull it off.  Depends on how the Vette acts and if it needs any major work in the next year.  Also depends on the cost of some of the repairs.  It would be nice though to have it on the road before the end of 08'.  I do plan to document it as I take it apart and put it back together.

Nice find! I want to find an old one to play around with. I like the one Joel had with the straight six and three on the tree. Sweet!
