The dealerships are just as bad. I took the Dakota in for an oil and filter change at 15k, the service writer stated that the front and rear diff oil was due for a change. Just a mear $244.00 US. I said I'll pass

Don't scoff at the diff service if you tow with the vehicle. If you read the owners manual on Chevy trucks, they recommend a diff service after 1,000 miles of towing. I have seen get diffs so hot in the summer time that the paint blisters off. Open one up and the smell is putrid. Flushes are good at bout 30 and 60k. after that, I wouldn't do it....I work at a dealer and I know what you think....rip-off...Not really. I have seen a lot of you can pay me now or you can pay me later situations. Also, some extended warranties actually require a transmission flush at certain intervals. If you have a trans problem and can't produce records of the flush, they can deny your claim. If you have an extended waranty on ANY vehicle ,read the maintenance requirements carefully. it could save you an expensive repair bill in the long run....

I guess the new model stuff may need service sooner than the older vehicles, as far as diffs. They jist don't make em like they used to, eh?!!
I've towed my car(and other crap!) all over the state o taxes with the 'Burban, and I know I've never serviced the diff since I've had it(almost ten years now). I built the engine/trans 2years ago. The engine oil I change. The trans....uh....not yet...
Maybe I'm jest weird.....
