Man my wife would kill me iffin she saw this. Anyways. My wife's 99 Silhouette Soccer Van bangs when it shifts gears. It used to do it only when it was warm out. So I changed the fluid and filter. It seemed to be OK for a while, now its back again at any temp. Any tranny gurus , you too Joel, got any idears? Thanks, T

Take it somewhere and have it scanned for codes, both "History" and "Current"...see if it pulls up a P1811, or P1870. These are the two most common codes, but it may have others.
P1811 is a trans shift adapt code, meaning the puter sees that it takes too long for one or more of the shifts to complete.
P1870 is a trans component slipping code, meaning the puter sees the rpms are not where it thinks they should be for a particular gear.
Once the trans sets a code, it will raise the line pressure in the unit(a "failsafe" mode), which creates the harsh shifts.
Chances are it has a torque converter lock-up issue, creating the problem. This could mean a solenoid that is not functioning properly, or a seal not sealing, or a converter taking a doo-doo.
Sad news is, any of the above requires removal for repair...

Thanks Joel. Would these codes trip the check eng. light? I have a pocket scanner, but it doesn't read history. Shop down the street has a high mucky muck Crap-On scanner. I'll try that. "T"
