Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses.

After my meeting wrapped up last night south of Nashville, I decided to go in to town and see some sights. There was apparently a hockey game going on at their big arena, so I figured that parking was going to be tough. Just as I thought that, I saw an open metered spot on the street right in front of the arena which is right in the middle of all the action! Wow! I used my best parallel parking skills to get my full sized Dodge truck into the spot. The meter said that it was only in effect until 6:00pm, so I put in a dollar to get cover that time, then was on my way.

I went to dinner, then walked around and looked at many of the shops (if anyone out there is looking for a sealed LP of the soundtrack to Smokey and the Bandit 2, I now know where you can find it!), as well as having the honor of visiting the Charlie Daniels Museum and Gift Shop (gift shop sapce is about 3x the size of the museum, but still very cool).
As I walked back to go back to the truck and the hotel, I saw that along with anyone else who was parked there, my truck had been towed.
I was, of course at first upset, until I more carefully read the signs under the meters - "Bus Loading, no parking 9pm-6am" I had been so excited and in such a hurry, I had just glanced at those signs and in my mind, I figured they said no parking from 9am to 6pm (that's the way it is at home, mostly).
In almost 25 years of driving, I've never been towed (other than mechanical breakdowns), but I've heard horror stories of the pain of retreiving a vehicle and the massive expense. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the experience (as much as that could be the case). I walked up to a cop who was nearby (I had also parked in front of the Police Sub-Station) and he gave me the number of the towing company and even hailed a cab for me. The cab got me there in less than five minutes, and my truck was still on the flatbed. About 20 minutes later, I was on my way.
Dinner on expense report - $30
Taxi Ride to get to towing company - $8
Towing Charge - $65
Parking Ticket - $10
Being EVER so happy that I drove my truck instead of the Vette (which was the original plan) - Priceless
I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!

I am not so sure I would have been as mild mannered that you seem to be. Looks like a good way for the city to make some extra revenue.

Yeah, I'd say you lucked out BIG TIME on this one! I had my Cad. towed once, after parking where the nice Policeman told me to(first mistake). Cost me $380...and a new trailer hitch...and bent bumper. This was at the Dallas New Car Show, and I was putting the '74 in for display. Had passes, ID, etc. Even parked on the far end of the lot, away from everyone else. It took all of five minutes for them to tow it off. Can you say "Scam"?
I stood in a line at the tow company for 30 minutes, behind 15-20 others who had been towed for no apparent reason. One guy had a pistol in his belt...I went to the front of the line, and told the nasty B#$%h working there I needed to get my frigging vehicle out of there before the gunfire started....and I barely did.
It sux, but you got out easy!
