I have a 55 Chevy truck with a 283 with 265 heads, I was going to install a standard Chevy HEI distributor and was wondering what if anything needs to be done about the spark plugs. any help would be appreciated

Increase your gap....Check with a Chilton book or haynes and see what the gap is for a 75 or so small block....

The gap will be easy, changing the plugs, the 283 has the larger size plugs, any suggestions on what year engines went to the smaller size. I will check with the local parts store to see if they can help. thanks for the responses.
Not sure what year they changed, but the smaller (wrench size) plugs will fit the early heads but not the other way around...I have 62 heads with the smaller plugs, no problem....
