Vette(s): 1972 conv., sunfire yellow, blk interior, blk vinyl and convertible top. Off frame restoration with American Speed 383 stroker engine producing 500hp plus a 200hp NOS system. MSD ignition. Hooker super competition headers with chambered exhaust.
Guys I need your help in identifying this engine that is in a Nova that a friend just bought.

I don't have the block casting number but here's the numbers of the engine pad.

T10 24 TSD
SDC5B12926

I think the "T"= Tonawanda plant, 10 24=October 24th and the last "T"=truck engine but can't find what the "SD" means.

Sorry Joel. Embarrassed It's in a '71 Nova. It was advertised  as a 396 but I don't think the 396 was produced after 1969. I know it's a BB but without the block casting number I don't know what the CI is.

They had the 396 in '70...
I haven't found that code in Chevelle-Nova-Camaro-Impalla stats of any year...it is a truck engine.

On 1970-and-later engines, the sixth character is the identifier ("C" = car; "T"=Truck) for the vehicle type, while the seventh and eighth characters are the engine identification code.

Since it is a truck engine, and probably around the 69-72 year model(presumably), it may very well be a 402...Adams' Apple2007-08-07 21:07:06

Joel, I've researched this all night and the more I search, the more confused I get. I agree that on the 70 and later engines, C=car and T=truck BUT I found 2 "TSD" codes on nastyz28.com. (TSD=1975 truck, 454 @ 215hp or 1977 truck, 454 @ 250hp) I don't think he's going to be happy with these findings since I believe he has bought a 1971  Yenko clone  with a truck engine.  Rolling%20On%20The%20Floor%20Laughing

Now if I can just find out what the SDC prefix code on the engine pad is. Wits%20End
