WHAT TO DO IF YOU GET A TRAFFIC TICKET

Remember, this advice was sent by the retired State Farm agent!

This system has been tried and it works in every state.

If you get a speeding ticket or went through a red light or whatever the case may be, and you're going to get points on your license. This is a method to ensure that you DO NOT get the points.

When you get your fine, send in a check to pay for it. If the fine is $79.00 make the check out for $82.00 or some small amount over the fine.

The system will then have to send you back a check for the difference, however here is the trick.

DO NOT CASH THE REFUND CHECK! Throw it away!
Points are not assessed to your license until all financial transactions are complete. If you do not cash the check, then the transactions are NOT completed. The system has received it's money and is satisfied and will no longer bother you.

This information comes from an unmentionable computer company that sets up the standard databases used by every state.

Never cheat on the law !

I once had a speed ticket ( one of... ) and my woman for parking about the same day. Whe had to put stamps on the briefing ( special fine stamps availeble at post offices ) : the stamps are with a lion : the head above and the tail under, you cut it and must sent the heads....Oke , whe tought to be clever : the heads on mine , the tails on my wifes briefing and sent. Ok , we didn't had duplicates with the other sides....

A few months later there where 2 police men at my office asking about the duplicates because they lost one.... , nono, they must had seen the lion-tails !  Whe payed a second time...

  bad luck !

Urban legend, you still get the points and they don't make change.

As soon as your payment is logged in, that's an admission of guilt and the points are immediately assessed on your record...the refund check (if any) would be generated after that. Either way...you lose!

I went to traffic court for 2 of them.

Both time, I went to a hearing first and plead non-guilty.

My first trial, the cop wasn't there, so automatically; it was dismissed.

My second trial, the cop was there AND truely prepared; he had a folder of about 25 pages.  The judge asked me up-front if I wanted to change my plea.  I said "Yes; no contest.".  She reduce my ticket by 30% and didn't assess me any points.  I think I got away easy, because the kid before me was trying to beat the speeding ticket with one of those method from an ebook.  He wasted 25 minutes and agravated everybody my making non-sense assessment and questioning the cop with question like "Can you prove that the retaining arm of the radar was truely bolted steady; no loose screws and that your car was no in idle; in park and on steady surface....".  Needless to say the she didn't cut him a break.

I have also use one of those lawyer in the past where you give them your ticket and 100$ cash (strickly cash..) and you never hear about it again (as long as you don't do it more than once a year).

Anyhow; my strategy is simple; go to court and hope the cop is not present.  If he is, be polite with the judge; don't make any sorry a$$ story and make it quick.  They will most likely reduce your sentence no question asked.

My Firefighter plates on my Vette have saved my butt a couple of times. I've had a finger shake or two along with a grin from the man. No not the dubious digit! I don't speed in any of the towns, but it's a long ways between population centers when you get East of here or head South to Vegas, and the temptation is just too great to keep it at 70.

The one ticket that I have recieved from a police officer (not photo radar ) I was going 128Kph in a 100Kph or( 72 Mph in a 60Mph zone) I was issued 128 for the ticket and paid it as soon as I got into the city approx. 1 hour later and I have yet to see any points assessed against my license and that wqas 2 years ago. I guess I beat the officer back before he could log it into the system. So my suggestion would be pay it as soon as you recieve or as close to as you can and the points may never be assessed against your license. If you are guilty

I've never had a speeding ticket.
But, lately I took a Defensive Driving Course, got my Certificate and dropped it off at State Farm for a 10% discount on the auto insurance.

Having Fraternal Order of Police plates on my cars has made sure I haven't gotten any speeding tickets for years. I have received a lot of professional courtesy though.
