Ok folks I need some help in North or South Carolina, I have my youngest daughter in NC that needs someone that knows about Land Rovers. Going against dad's advice she bought a 2004 in SC and has had it a year and never licensed because it wont pass inspection due to engine problems. Just looking for some leeds on someone that can work on a land rover other than the rip off she bought it from. I really dont want a land rover so help!!!!

Im in NC and wish I could help but cant. My daily drivers (neither land Rovers) are either serviced in my garage or at the stealership. Perhaps one of the other Carolina members will have a suggestion. Good luck and hate she is having this problelm.

first thing you need to have her do is take the car by autozone or oreillys and have them read the codes for her. then post them here.. that will help a bunch.
your daughter broke the 1st and 2nd rules of owning a british car.
1 own a flat bed trailer with a winch... you will need it.
2 be a mechanic with lots of spare time and money.

Fred, does she have a clue as to what the problem might be? If it's an emissions issue, Autozone(or other parts house) will ONLY be able to get emissions related codes, which could certainly point her in the right direction. Could be as simple as replacing the gas cap....

Ok folks thanks for the responses, Let me try and bring you up to date. When she bought the car the check engine light came on, the dealer changed the o2 sensor but the light came back on. They have had the vehicle in checking everything out now telling her it will cost 3400.00 to fix the motor. My daughter is at Ft Bragg and the car is in SC where she bought it. She hasnt been able to even get the car licensed in NC because it wont pass the inspection, not to mention it wont start now so she tells me. The dealer just made an offer for 2000.00 to settle out of court, I have a feeling this may drag out for awhile. Thanks for the responses, I'm thinking I might go and get the car and bring it to Texas and fix it myself, a chevy 350 will go nice in it dont you think! As soon as I know more I'll post some more.
Thanks again
Fred

Still not much info to go on....and ya cain't really depend on what "they" say is wrong. I can't imaging needing a new engine to pass emissions, unless that thing is smokin like a volcano.....

Ya, but...Saturn is a GM product...not a Range Rover. Our high dollar scammer at the shop can't even do Range Rovers, so that's why I added that info. OBDII cars are ALL required to have a standardized protocol for emissions related stuff, so any scammer/code reader would be able to get emissions codes on the Rover, but little else. Dang English cars!

Hey guys, I almost forgot about this thread and apoligize to those that had tried to help. The car is running and in NC now, the dealer she had bought it from paid a settlement enough to have the car fixed with new motor.
PS. anyone want to buy a land rover?
