Hello!
I won a pool tournament this weekend and the prize is to go compete in Vegas (VNEA league if anyone knows what I'm talking about).
It's the last week of May.
I won in a single event, but will be playing in a team event in Las Vegas. I don't know which category or with who yet. I'm also looking at the option to bring my wife & 2 y/o daughter along for the trip.
I've never been to Vegas and my understanding is that I will have Sunday, Monday & Friday "free time". I will either tag along some tours/sight seeing/shows with my assigned team or find a nice bunch of people or with my family or alone.
I'd like to maximize my time/money in there and not fall for tourist trap. I LOVE poker, but I could very well not even play while being there. Poker/gambling is almost last of my things to do while there. I don't care much for inside/theatre shows either. I'm 40 y/o, so clubbing is not on my list.
Any recommendations? Based on your experience, feel free to let me know what I should not miss and even what I should avoid.
Thanks!
Steph.

The Shelby Museum is on the north side of town.
Not sure if you are renting a car or not but Lake Mead/Hoover dam is a nice trip. I cannot find the smaller tour boat I've done. It launches out of the marina. Only one that comes up is the big paddlewheeler
TV show, Pawn Stars is located there. I have visited so you are on your own here....
Your kids would like the tigers at....
The west side of town offers the red rock mountain you can drive around.
We did the "strip" at night for all the lights and watching the action. Treasure Island sinks a pirate ship every evening out front with a pirate show.

Only 34 years together
The Dam Dam tour is always good, Vegas is not kid friendly you will not be allowed anywhere on the carpet areas (gambling) with a stroller. Not even to cut through but all the mall shops will welcome you. You can tour the AFB where the thunderbirds are based, also Carroll Shelby Inc. is next to the Race Track.
Good job on winning the trip, have fun.

The Shelby Museum has moved to the strip area. It is at W.Sunset Rd and I-15 just 1 block west of the airport. A lot more convenient to visit from the strip area. It's address is 6405 Ensworth St.

The difference between men and boys is the cost of their toys!!
Great suggestions. Thank you.
I still have a few weeks to work out a list and do some planning.
Will definitely include Hoover Dam & the strip at night. 3 years ago I used to do stand-up comedy as a hobby, so I'll try to find myself a comedy club with open mic night and put out a show while being there. If anyone knows of a club they would recommend; please do so.
Great tip on bringing the family; I kind of forgot that it's Sin City after all; not necessarily a great destination for toddlers. It's not Disney after all.
And to answer previous question; not renting a car and not planning on it. I will tag along a group of 20 people. Some have been there, some have not. We'll probably split in smaller groups based on interests.

The one place my wife and I enjoyed when we were there is Valley Of Fire National park.
Provided you are renting car which I would advise. Unbelievable scenery in park, you will think you left the planet earth! Highly recommend it!

One thing that i enjoy is downtown, Fremont street. The street itself is closed, and a free overhead light display dome was installed, complete with sound effects. To me, the highlights are the blue angel fly over, and the zip line tour. Maybe kinda cheesy, but if your in the area, and well i enjoy it.... here is a link to a description of it:http://www.vegas.com/attractions/off-the-strip/fremont-street-experience/
Just something to see if your downtown for some reason.
