Topic: Non-vette Q: Brake wear light reset
in Forum: General Non-Vette Discussion
Hi guys, hope you don't mind the non-Vette question!
My wife drives a '98 Lexus LS400. The "brake wear" indicator had come on, so I replaced the front brake pads last night. The electronic wear indicators clip onto the new brake pads fine and the wear indicators do not look ver worn at all (she only drove a couple of days with the light on.)
So once I get it all back together, the "wear indicator" light is still lit up on the dash. Does anyone know what I might need to do to reset the light?
i'm afraid that's modern stuff and perhaps after installing new brake pads you need the dealers garage's computer to reset your chip.
Changed a steering wheel on a BMW and the dealer needed 1/2 hour for resetting the air-bag warning light....
Where are the good old days without all that junk ?
Other way to go : use some tape over that light on the dashboard , and remember to check regarly your brakes.... as we did years ago and we still live...
Must still surch for that enerving bell in my Ram for keys in columm, safety belts etc... i think i cut the red wire ....
If it were me, I would try disconnecting the neg side of the battery before I paid and exorbitant amount of money to a dealership. My $.02. Sure you wil loose your radio presets and clock setting, but that's easy to fix.

Go to Alldata & pay a nominal price & get all the info on your car plus dealer recalls etc. Well worth the price especially on these newer cars.

I would also recommend to disconnect the neg. batt. cable. Make sure you know the audio system code(if equipped)
Check your owner's manual...it might have the reset info.

It could be that one or more of the sensors has some damage, or the wiring/connections.
