Vette(s): White '79 Corvette. It's a driver.

I was just reading an advertisement for the K&N brand oil filters. Does anyone have any experience with them? Are they worth the extra cost?

I tend to use AC Delco or Hastings brand oil filters for the Corvette.
I buy the Motorcraft brand for my wife's Ford and I buy whatever is cheapest for my Honda Civic commuter.

Any pros & cons on oil filter brands?

Kevin

I personally like and use the K&N gold filters. They trap down to 10 microns. They also have a hex at the base, which makes them easy to install and remove.

You'll get oil filtration that's good as gold with these K&N oil filters.
Keep your engine free from contaminants as small as 10 microns with these Performance Gold K&N oil filters. They use a resin-impregnated filter media to provide maximum filtering, and an inner core to lend extra structural support to the filter, preventing filter collapse. Plus, these K&N oil filters have an anti-drainback valve that eliminates dry starts and prevents oil from draining back into the crankcase during engine shutdown. And they're protected by a heavy-duty outer shell that guards against rock and stone damage and provides over 550 psi hydrostatic burst strength. So, if you want golden-level oil protection, then you want K&N oil filters. By the way, I don't work for K&N.

Hey "440",
That's pretty compelling stuff!
I'm thinkin' I'll spring for the K&N on the Corvette when the springtime oil change can be done.
Thanks!

Kevin, I pay $10.95 at Summit Racing, but I buy when I get an extra 10% off!  I'm sure other people have their own opinions. (I hope you're feeling a bit better)

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!
There is a huge difference in oil filters.   When they are cut open, the difference you see is remarkable.   Some have steel, some just have cardboard supports inside.   Some have springs and some have flap valves.  The type and amount of filtering material varies greatly.  Some have more the four or five times as much filter material as others.
The case is also very different.  Anywhere from tinfoil to steel in relationships to each other.

The K& N filter is a very good one.   The Bosch is also good, as is the Mobile 1 filter.  NAPA Gold is also quite good, much better than the NAPA Silver.

I have heard good reviews about the K&N oil filters, but have not tried them yet.

A well respected ZR-1 guru in the Chicago area recommends the Bosch filter for the LT-5, whcih I have also not tried yet.

On "The Ranch" I've been using the NAPA Gold filters on all the engines that require a filter.
