Escort makes great Radar Detectors at a great price, but the best protection against speeding tickets is Keeping Your Foot Off The Gas

Saves the $$'s in more ways then one. Oh ya I only owned my Pace Car 20 hours before the first State Trooper pulled me over.  Not for speeding though, temp tags fell off the back window

I'm happy with my Beltronic.  I lost the cable, but it's updateable through the internet.  A feature you might want to look into.

Mine detects X, K and laser and has a laser scrambler (AND IT WORKS, you should have seen the face on the policeman when he shot at my car with the laser and he was taking the reading...).

One thing I don't have and wish I did, is a directional pointer (tells you if it picked it up from the front, back, left, right....).

Mine has voice that I don't care much for it and a semi-silent mode (I like that).

To be honest, I don't have much use for it.... most cops when they sit on the side of the highway, don't leave their radar open.  THey just "shoot" at you if if appears that you are exceeding.  So if he sits in a spot that you can't see him and he "shoot" you after you pass him; that radar was useless.  Well, it actually confirmed that you are getting a ticket.

My radar actually saved me of a ticket one time.  A state trooper in an unmark SUV was following my lead on the highway at about 90 for about 3 minutes.  When I signaled my exit, he turned his lights on.  When he got to my window, I saw him staring at the detector.  It never went off (and we both knew it). The only "proof" he had of my speed was to follow me at the same speed.  He let me go with a warning!

Vette(s): 1980 Red T-Top with 42000 miles. No modifications and will probably stay that way.

Because of "Company" policy banning radar detectors I renamed the device on my dash as an "Emergency Vehicle Locator" and in truth that is exactly what it is!! Mine is a, hmmmm, I'll have to go out to my truck and get a name!!! Anyways, it picks up all the bands that were out there 2 years ago plus has the rear sensing feature and the big plus is the true Emergency Vehicle Locator function that alarms if ambulance or fire/rescue are running "hot" to a scene. . .provided their department has spent the money to outfit the units and the driver has it actually turned on. It has saved me tons of money in warning me of a shooter out there. On the highway, it picks up the radar being shot at another vehicle 2++ miles or so away, giving me the opportunity to trim back to about 10 or so over the limit which I have never been stopped for on the hiway. Much of my travelling is hundreds of miles a day on uncongested hiways. Just a note here, I drive to conditions not to a sign! After supper I'll go out to the truck and get a make. . .

Take care. . .

Doug

I have a BEL980 (Beltronics) which I've used for a number of years now, does all the bands front and rear,
and has paid for itself plus. No radar detector will
save you from a bushwacker (where you are "shot" by
a radar operator which until he/she lines you up
and hits the button is not transmitting anything for
a detector to detect !)

I've heard of "scramblers" and "jammers" but have not
explored them any further... please tell me more about
your Bel which scrambles !

Man, I feel stupid now....

I have a BEL985 and for the last 2 years, I've been telling everyone that I have a scrambler for the laser.  After you asked, I pulled my documentation to get the exact wording out of the book.  Turns out I don't have a scrambler.   Now I'm trying to figure out what was that second sound I heard; right after the "laser" sound and why was that cops mad and surprised at the same time and why he didn't go after me.

The only feature I have outside the back/front all frequencies/laser; is immune to VG2 (which is not much of a feature these days...).

After I realized my mistake, I did some search on scramblers, and turns out they are more myths than anything else; unless you pay about 1000$ for a conceled unit.

Regardless, if I had to buy again, I would buy another Beltronics.
