Vette(s): Silver 1974 Convertible - L82 4 speed Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses. 2008 Jetstream Blue Convertible
When I found my current daily driver, a 2007 Silverado, what I really wanted was a Chevy SSR.  While my Silverado is a great ride and very sharp, it's more vehicle than I need (bigger) and I've never really gotten attached to it like I have with other vehicles I've had and kept (I drove my previous truck over 210,000 miles - and I bought it used).

It's not paid for yet, but I think it's at a point where I can at least break even and in looking, it seems like '05 and up SSRs (with the Corvette V8) have dropped a couple $$.

Anyone have an opinion on the Super Sport Roadster?  It would be a daily driver.  I figure -
  • Corvette Engine
  • Powered Hard Top Convertible
  • Truck bed (not a very big one, I know, but I don't use it often)

What else could I want?  Ok, another Vette, but I've been told that's not going to happen, so I figure this may be the next best thing.

Oh, and don't worry, I would be keeping the Vette as well...

The Chevrolet SSR is a two-passenger convertible truck that was produced from 2004-'06. Buyers interested in a used SSR should make note of a few changes that occurred during its production. For its first year, the SSR came with a 350-horsepower, 5.7-liter V8 that struggled to get the 4,700-pound SSR moving with any authority. The 6.0-liter unit installed in 2005 made around 400 hp and was more adept at moving the heavy Chevy. Interior assembly quality improved somewhat during the 2005 model year, which also was the first year the six-speed manual transmission became available.

I'd say go for it.  I like them well enough that I'd be shopping for a 6 speed model.  Maybe by the time we've moved off "The Ranch" and didn't need a regular pickup they'll be more in my price range.

I'm guessing the mileage would be about the same as the pick-em-up but you won't have the 4 wheel drive.  They're certainly capable of pulling a small trailer so the bed size shouldn't be man issue.

Sooo....  what color...?!?!?

The Silverado is an LTZ model, so it's "nicely equipped" with leather and bells and whistles, but not 4WD.  So I wouldn't be losing that, just 2 doors and a back seat...

Good evening friend!  FYI - Wiese Auto (maybe bought by Carver) in Taylorsville, just off of I65S has a red SSR.  I don't know the year.

Take care
Gary

Did a little surfing to see what is out there in a 2005 or 2006 with a manual tranny.  Lots of red, yellow, and silver ones.  I personally don't like the red (too flat) or the yellow (too bright) and I've had a silver truck for the past 10 years so would want something different.

Good luck with the hunt...!!!
