Patty's Uncle Ronald bought this car in 1951 from the original owner.  At the time it had around 5,000 miles on it - now it has just over 38,000.  In nearly 35 years of being in the family I've only seen the car running once - and that was in 1979 or 1980.  It has been stored in his garage for the past 25+ years until we brought it into the daylight a couple of weeks ago.  Uncle Ronald will 90 next year and is starting to part with things.  Patty wanted to keep the car in the family.  Now it is sitting in the corner of our garage.

When he parked the car Uncle Ronald drained the coolant, pulled the plugs and oiled the cylinders, and pulled the battery out of it.  That's all...!!!  Curiousity was killing me so even before unloading it I put the starting crank in and gave the engine a gentle revolution.  IT WAS FREE...!!!  I didn't hear any screeching, crunchinig, or grinding so guessing the engine is ok.  Before trying to get it running I plan to change all the fluids, repack wheel bearings, replace belts, hoses, tires, and battery.  Will have to flush the gas tank and probably should get the radiator checked out just to be safe.  (Just what I need - more projects...!!!)

Overall the car is in pretty good shape.  Originally it was a dark blue with black fenders but Uncle Ronald thought that was a bit too drab so he had the body painted to "spruce it up a bit".  The interior is original and a tad musty but hopefully putting some dryer sheets in it over the winter will freshen it up a bit.

Somewhere along the line Uncle Ronald picked up a spare engine and transmission so may sell that to help fund the refurbishing project.  Quite a few other odds and ends came with the car and anything else related to the car that Uncle Ronald finds while cleaning out his garage and basement will come our way.  A neighbor down the road is a Model T/Model A collector and he has already offered his assistance in getting the car running and to be a mentor to this "youngin'"...!!!

"See the U.S.A. in your Model A......."  Somehow that just doesn't sound right.  LOL

I thought all pre-1940 cars were called "Bettsy".
I like the Clyde idea!

Oh god no!  Find an old junker and fix it up. I'd love a nice 2 door sedan rod, but Jim's is pristine, besides, it would just kill his uncle.

Yes - it does have the famous AHH-UUG-AHH horn.  It also has a wolf whistle plumbed into the intake manifold (which I'm sure is going to get me in plenty of hot water).

Actually we haven't discussed an nickname yet.  "Little Putt-Putt" comes to mind but I can guarantee you that I will not have the final vote on what it will be.

What's that you're sayin' Sonny...!!!  Speak up will ya, I'm a little deef don't 'cha know...!!!  One of Uncle Ronald's biggest fears was that "The A" would fall into a "Hot Rodder's" hands.  He kept the car in its original condition so it could be appreciated as a piece of American history.  We plan to only replace that which needs replacing and keep it as a driver.

Actually the Model T was nick-named the Flivver, as well as The Tin-Lizzie.

Will have more pics as the clean-up and refurbishing gets under way.
