Hey there Vette fans,
Just went to open the hood on the Vette and the passenger side did not release. I pushed the drivers side down again so it latched and tried again. NO LUCK!!
Whats the trick to opening the hood if it's stuck closed?
Please reflect tomorrow and say a prayer for all those that perished 3 years ago on 9/11 and their families.

The trick has been posted many times, and will be posted again many times.
On each side, down near the wipers there is a plastic plug. Pop out the plastic plug and fish around with a screwdriver or other metal implement until you can pop the latch, then replace the hood release cable. I know for sure that the 1980 Corvette does NOT have these plugs, but the latch on the 1980 is new for 1980 and the plug was readded for 1981. I'm not honestly sure if it is there on a 73 but I would think so. If you have wiper doors they might cause a problem and that I cannot help with.

Hi Scot,
Are you referring to the access panels in the gutter between the cowl and the windshield? If so, how do you get at them with the hood closed? The panels on my 79 are held in place by screws.

Sounds like you have one of those aftermarket wiper compartment covers. You should still be able to access the plug to get at the latch. Run the wipers up and park them in the fully up position. Look to the inside of the pass. side arm for the plug. Take a long screwdriver and push against the plug til it pushes in. Them push the blade of the screwdriver straight in to the bottom of the plug hole. Don't pry, you need to push down on the latch arm. You're effectively pushing down on the part that the cable pulls down on.
Everyone should take a look at how their year operates. I've seen this question so often I made sure I had a look at mine. 76 and earlier with the cable on the hood are probably a little different, but this should work on the 79.

You guys rock!!
Hood open!! It's the little things in life that make you happy, especially on a day like today.
The plastic mounting tab on the passenger side broke loose. A little wire bracket worked perfrctly for a temporary fix. New cable being ordered.
Thanks again guys!

My uncle has an 80. It doesn't have the plugs. Wonder if that was an early/late thing?
