Topic: Anyone good with computers?
in Forum: Humor
Like most everything else, I don't know doodly squat about computers but my wife being a computer programmer always buys a new Dell.
[QUOTE=Aegisfang]I upgraded my computer with a new motherboard, a Shuttle,an AMD 2.6 gb processor, and 512 mb memory for $290. I got all the components at newegg.com and they were all matched together at their site. tigerdirect.com also does that and I have done business with both and they are reputable.I put it in myself by following the instructions in the motherboard box. it isn't that hard if you are a little computer literate. If you aren't, do you know anyone who is or can refer you to someone they know who will do it for a small fee. There are many college kids who can do it tooif you know any. I have slowly upgraded all components in my computer so the only part left original is the case. You must get a motherboard has the avg video slot and at least 3 pci slots for the video card, sound card, modem or cable card or you can just get one that has them integrated on the motherboard. In all with the moniter, new keyboard, mouse etc. I have kept the cost total under $500. I have heard from comp. local repair shops that Gateways always need the most repairs.

what you did was kinda the idea I had, I consider myself very computer literate, I just have never done anything with hardware other than plugging in a new sound card or memory. Finding a college kid would be pretty easy since I only graduated a few months ago. I just dont see a reason to replace things like the case, power supply and drives that still work fine. I figure if I can same some money not buying those, I can put more money into my car

Nono, my insurance won't keep me i suppose...

The greatest problem was at that time that we made backups with a tape streamer witch worked visualy normaly but seemed to have malfunctioned the last 4 months....so we where lost those months ...facturation, drawings,ASME and TEMA calculations, letters... etc.
Now whe do that with a external hard disk.
At the time of the burglery there was a great joke around my employees because they had stolen a company van ( witch we later found in a nearby village ) : they had used a piece of steelplate as a ramp to steal my wife's Harley sportster who was coincendly parked in the factory .The steelplate showed the tyres patern and was left with the harley nicely parked at the gate. They all joked that the thiefs unloaded the bike once they realised it was a harley !!!!!

Lucky my fatboy was at home....

and yes , after that we installed a alarm...
