Whats the story about bidding on Ebay. I just placed my bid and immediately got out bid. How can I get out bid so fast?? What gives?? I mean you think it would at least take a while for another bid to come in.
THANKS....steve

What happens is that someone puts their maximum bid in at a certain amount, and if you enter a bid that is less than that, it jumps to the next highest bid which is theirs.
For example, the bidding starts at $5 and they decide that they are willing to pay $50 for the item, then they enter a max bid of $50. The bid on the item still shows $5, which was the minimum bid to open (or whatever the amount is at the time). You come along and decide to bid $10, and immediately get outbid. The bid amount will now show $11 (or some number higher than what you bid). It will continue to do this until you reach a higher number than their max bid. That's why you don't usually bid the exact amount of what the bid is at the time. You usually enter the amount that you are willing to pay for the item.
A lot of people wait until the last minute of the sale, in order to keep the price from climbing up a lot. As the time count gets below one minute, they bid in hopes of getting the item for a steal.
Hope this makes sense.

The key to eBay purchases is to know exactly what you're looking for. Although some of the sellers are Corvette knowledgable and correctly list items, lots and lots of folks don't know what they have or the applicable models years.

As long as you know what you need, you're cool.

Thanks
All good advise.....

Look at the sellers feedback! If there is anything that has gone bad it will be posted. Pay attention to the # of items they have sold too. 3 items @ 100 % feedback isn't much. Watch out for overseas sellers. Their pricing may not be posted in good ol US of A currency. Pay attention to the shipping cost s. What may be a steal in price can sometimes be less attractive when shipping is added.
Waiting until the last minute is known as phishing. It won't do you any good to wait until the last minute if a bid is at $100.00 and I bid $1000.00 within the last few minutes. I will win becuse EBAY will keep automatically bidding up for me until it would reach the $1000.00 figure.
In saying that if you wait until the last minute be prepared to bid accordingly. If you bid a few $$$ over the amount chances are you will get beat.
I used to open 2 EBAY tabs as mentioned previously until I figured out the bidding increments were automatic and that I could bid well above the price but only have to pay a few dollars over the present winning bid.
GOOD LUCK (Hope you don't bid against me now that I have told you a few tricks.....)Tuxblacray 2008-01-08 09:38:02

First, I decide the MOST I am willing to pay for an item, I wait for the timer to get to 20 seconds, put in my MAX bid, and make sure it is NOT an even #. For example, if I decide to bid $25.00 on an item, I put in a max bid of $24.87 or $26.56, it just keeps the other bidder from possibly getting a second crack at it.
