Bill came throught surgery okay.  He has a drain tube in his chest and is in a lot of pain when he coughs.  To get the larger than expected tumor they have removed the upper left lung lobe, but that was expected.  He is stitting up and talking.  I will call him later today.  He may or may not be on oxygen for a while, depending on how he does.  Just sitting in the hospital oxygen is not needed.  They can't say for sure if they have everything, but believe they may.  The tumor was not smooth, but a bit of a sticky mass, so it had to removed a bit at a time.

He will be back on kemo after the surgery, and stronger than what he had before surgery.  Hopefully this will get any remaining or random cancer cell.  Over all, it's looking good, but will still be a bit rough for awhile.  They may send him home in a few days.

He is at

Fairview Hospital near Cleveland.  I will update this a bit later today with an address.  His hospital room phone is 216-889-6315.

Really glad to hear all appears to be going well with "The Captn". Tell him all of us here at C3VR are really pulling for him to beat "this thing".

I spoke with Bill on the phone tonight.  He is in a lot of pain, so if you call, keep it brief.  Remember we are on eastern time.

They will probably take the drain tube out of his lung tomorrow, and perhaps home on Sunday.  Other than that, nothing new to add.

More good news!

The tube is out of his chest, and Bill is HOME!  Everything went better than expected. He is not on oxygen.  It will take some healing time and more kemo, but he and his wife were going out for a ride in the air conditioned car.  It's about 90 today.

Thanks for all the thoughts & prayers they do make a difference! The surgery went very well although longer than expected due to the radiation melting the tumor away. The doctor said the lung tissue was very sticky and somewhat weakend as he tried to move/scrape and cut tissue away. They did remove the entire upper lobe and once it was out the lower lobe seemed to redistribute itself and fill up most of the void. Simply amazing.. They had told me earlier that I would be on oxygen for some time but that didn't happen either. I was released with no tanks and no worries as to where to put an extra tank in the 69 So I'm back at home, all the tubes are out, get to take my first shower in a week and remove some dressings. Thanks to all of you! This truly is a great forum of even greater people!! Hope to see some of you yet this summer.... Bill
I should have added that the docs are very confident that they got it all and I should now be cancer FREE! Further chemo treatments were discussed but I won't know for sure until I seen him again in a couple weeks he wanted the lung to heal a bit.captn bill38867.2308101852
